Tarot draws: real randomness, on your device
When you draw a card on Astracana, the shuffle happens entirely in your browser, using JavaScript’s Math.random() — the standard random-number function built into every modern browser. In plain terms: every draw is random, like shuffling a digital deck and pulling a card face-down. We don’t weight the deck, we don’t track your draw history, and the draw is never decided on our servers. Each visit is a fresh shuffle.
Card interpretations: written by editors, reviewed by humans
The text you see after a draw isn’t generated on the spot. Each of the 78 cards has an interpretation written by our editors and reviewed for accuracy, clarity, and tone before it ever reaches the site. When you draw the Three of Swords, you’re reading the same carefully written reflection every other visitor reads — the randomness is in which card finds you, not in what it says.
We write in a reflective voice on purpose: “this card points toward…”, never “you will…”. Tarot speaks in symbols; symbols invite reflection, not predictions.
Astrology calculators: simplified astronomy, stated plainly
Our calculators — Sun, Moon, and Rising signs, birth-chart basics, and compatibility — use simplified astronomical approximations computed from your birth date, time, and place. They’re good enough for reflection and learning, and they’re honest about their limits:
- Sign cusps: if you were born within a day or two of a sign change, the Sun sign shown is an approximation. Exact cusp dates shift slightly year to year; for borderline birthdays, check an ephemeris or a professionally cast chart.
- Birth-time accuracy: your Moon sign changes roughly every two to two-and-a-half days, and your Rising sign roughly every two hours. A birth time that’s off by even an hour — or missing entirely — can shift both. Treat Moon and Rising results as approximate unless your birth time is exact.
- Houses and aspects: where shown, these use simplified whole-sign or equal-house methods, not full ephemeris-grade computation.
In short: our calculators are a starting point for curiosity, not a substitute for a professionally cast chart.
Your birth data never leaves your browser
This one matters to us. Every calculation on Astracana runs client-side — in your browser, on your device. The birth dates and times you enter into our calculators are never sent to our servers, never stored in a database, and never shared with anyone. Close the tab and it’s gone; we never had it.
There are no accounts on Astracana, so there’s nothing to attach your data to even if we wanted to. That’s by design.
Why we tell you all this
Trust is the whole product. A tarot site that won’t explain its own shuffle is asking you to believe in a black box — we’d rather show you the box. If you ever spot something that looks wrong in a calculation or an interpretation, tell us. We’ll check it, fix it, and say so.
